Today while on my evening walk, I noticed a poor lady sitting on the roadside in rough, torn clothes with a small child in her lap. The little one was hardly a year old and bundled up in a cloth. Looking at them, I stopped and asked if the baby was warmly dressed as it was very cold. Shivering, the lady held out the child, and I saw that the baby wore just a baggy sweater that was two sizes too large for him, nothing snug that would keep him warm.
I asked her to wait while I went to the nearest store and buy some woolens for the baby. I hurriedly went there and purchased four pieces of woolen clothing and a pair of socks and returned to give them to the lady.
While I couldn’t complete my walk, the happiness and joy on her face, and the multitude of good wishes that she showered on me flashed through my mind over and over.
The joy of giving certainly has a lot to give back.
