I am the Principal of a government residential college. To facilitate learning during the COVID19 lockdown period, we started village learning circles (VLC) for the students of all grades of our school. We created groups of students who belonged to the same village. After consulting their parents, it was decided that they would learn together either at the home of any student or in a community building.
My team of teachers prepares the syllabus and shares it with the group leader. The children learn in the comfort and safety of their homes, and we monitor the VLCs every day through WhatsApp. In the beginning, we found it challenging. Since we are concerned about the health risks involved, strict rules are in place regarding the safety norms for the implementation of the VLC. Both parents and students are happy about the program.
My office staff helped to collect data from 185 villages and identified 40 villages which had more than three students each. Some people in the villages extended help by providing sanitizers, etc. to the children. We continuously monitor the progress of the students and encourage and support them in every way. We share resources and information with other groups too.
The students and parents are appreciative of my team’s enthusiasm.
Takeaway
It is very fulfilling to enable learning.
