This morning, traffic was heavy while driving to work. As I stopped in front of a petrol station, I noticed another driver trying to get out of there. Traffic was not moving at all, and there was not much space for me to let him go first, but he was pushing in and was slowly moving his car forward. My first reaction was that he is pushy and he should wait. But while waiting, I remembered my daily Raks and reminded myself to be kind. Hence, when traffic moved, I indicated to him to go before me.
Generally, it is common courtesy that drivers give thanks and acknowledge each other. However, the other person stared at me instead, and there was no gesture of gratitude. Thinking that he had won, there was a smile on his face, and I was OK with that since the choice I made gave me a sense of peace.
The mindful start had an impact on the whole day.
Doing acts of kindness whenever possible is always worthwhile.
