Recently I had to visit the bank for an urgent matter. I finished work early and was rushing to get to the bank. The branch is in the shopping mall in a busy place. As I was about to step on the escalator, I noticed an elderly person dropped something from his bag. He was unaware of what had just happened. I quickly stepped back since no one was behind me. It looked like he had just finished work. I called and rushed towards him – but he didn’t hear. Finally, I caught up with him, advised him of what happened, and he recovered his packet and thanked me.
I was able to make it to the bank, and on the way back, I spotted a big plastic glove discarded in the middle of the shopping mall. The floor of the mall is tiled and very slippery. Anyone could easily slip by stepping on the glove. I moved the litter and felt glad that people will be safe now. In all this rushing about, I realised that the stress I was under to get things done disappear while my focus was on serving others. I walked out with a lesson that while helping others, we end up serving ourselves too.
While helping others we help ourselves, and we de-stress too!
