On a trip to the bird sanctuary at Bharatpur, just a few km before the city, a bird hit the windscreen of our car. Before I could realise, we had passed a few 100 yards. It was late evening, and the sun was about to set. I was in two minds about stopping to check on the bird. But then a strong urge engulfed me, and I made an u-turn and saw a little egret lying by the side.
I picked it up carefully and checked for any serious injuries. Fortunately, there were none. The egret was in shock for sure. I gave it a few drops of water from the bottle cap and left it near a pond so it could find food.
Reaching the car, my nine-year-old daughter asked about the bird. I told her it was safe. My daughter couldn’t believe I did this and exclaimed, “Oh, you are so kind!” This was a reward I didn’t expect. I was sure this random act of kindness that had just happened impacted my daughter’s heart as she kept talking about the incident for a long time.
Kindness is contagious !
