A while ago, my wife’s grandmother, who was 78 years old at that time came to stay with us for about a month. I was posted in Gujarat at that time and Grandmother could speak only Tamil, so I wondered how she would spend one whole month with us.
When Grandmother arrived, she first asked me to buy her a slate and pencil and a primary level Hindi alphabet book. She told us that she had specifically chosen to stay with us because she wanted to learn to write in Hindi. In one month, Grandmother became fluent in reading and writing Hindi.
Grandmother was also a wonderful singer and could play any musical instrument. During that one month of her stay, we arranged sangeet mehfils ( music concerts) at my house. My neighbours and I had the most beautiful time. She passed away 6 months later. She remains my inspiration always.
It’s never too late if you want to learn something ?
