This is an experience that left an indelible mark on me. Six years ago, on a Sunday, I happened to peep out of the window of our apartment. I saw a farmer tilling his land in the traditional manner with two oxen pulling the plough. It took him 90 minutes, on a very hot day, to complete his task.
After he finished his task, he brought the oxen under the shade of a tree. He unyoked the pair, took them to the water hole and gave them grass to eat. Only after all that did he attend to himself.
I was amazed at his loving gesture. He must have been equally tired due to the heat of the sun and perhaps uncomfortable in his sweat-soaked clothes. However, he attended to his supporting animals first. His compassion is something that remains with me till date.
Kindness to fellow beings is the best way to express gratitude.
