Two days before our university exam, everyone was busy reading for the exam. My roomie was sleeping for a very long time, and we were not on good terms so I could not wake her up. It was getting to be noon, and she was still asleep! That bothered me, and I made up my mind to wake her.
When I woke her, we found she had a high fever and acute abdominal pain. I immediately took her to a gynaecologist, and after a scan, they diagnosed ovarian tumour that needed to be operated immediately, else the tumour could rupture. I was very new to such types of circumstances in my life, and I didn’t know how to go ahead without informing her parents. At that time we didn’t have mobiles also. To notify her parents, I had to go at least 500m, and I wasn’t in a state to leave her and go. Finally, I prayed to God and signed the consent form for surgery. After sending her to the OT, I called her parents, and they reached by evening.
The surgery was successful, and her parents profusely thanked me for taking her to the hospital at the right time and saving her life. I spent the entire in the hospital taking care of her till her parents reached.
I experienced mixed feelings – I was happy that I could help her, but I was tense that I had not prepared for the exam. Somehow I had a gut feeling that I will do my exam well. Finally, the exam was over, and I passed! ?.
