Here I am in quarantine with no television or radio…just my thoughts, the internet and memories. I remembered, some years ago, a relative of mine, contacting me because he wanted to buy a trumpet (or trompete) for his young son. The boy was eager to learn to play the instrument, and the father wanted an excellent piece at a reasonable price. I lived in Austria, and so they asked me to help them.
It so happened that I knew an excellent musician whose great grandfather was a legendary composer in Bulgaria. So I called him, and he did indeed find a great offer. And so I bought the trumpet. At that time, the boy was no more than 15, and I was very skeptical about his musical interest. But he was thankful, and, it turned out talented! So he put in a whole lot of effort, playing at parties and weddings, studied music theory, and made it to the Konservatory, graduated and now is a music teacher.
As I write this, I am listening to him on YouTube and feeling grateful for a decision I made some years ago.
