One of the singers at the temple from the group is very reserved. He would sing at his turn and leave as soon as possible. A few months ago I met him during prayer at someone’s home. He looked a bit down and mentioned that he lost his job recently and is very scared. I assured him that he will be ok and asked him to stay positive. After a few days, I thought of checking on him because he seemed very distressed that day. He was still looking for a job and becoming depressed. He wanted to talk, and he explained how things were very tough at home. Due to lack of support and the very strained relationship he had, he felt like ending his life and broke down. I was shocked to learn how much he had been going through.
I felt this matter could get serious and spoke to another devotee who is running an organisation to help the homeless and needy. I introduced him to the founder, and they were happy to assist him. He was having someone to talk to and receiving financial assistance made a difference. Today I received a phone call from him saying that he had secured a well-paying job and a place to live. He was so happy and was looking forward to starting his new journey.
I was so pleased to see him again having hope in life. We don’t know what people go through. I could never imagine the hardships he had seen. This experience is a reminder to me to be kind to others since I am unaware of the battles that they face.
