A couple of decades back, I came across a subordinate who was very sharp and could do workable planning. He worked very hard, but results were not equal to the efforts he put in.
I interacted with him on a couple of occasions and thought of guiding and pushing him in the field of his interest. I arranged a couple of courses and a few seminars for him, where he proved to be above average. We gave him additional tasks intending to extract more from him and to make him realize his potential. By now, he had developed total confidence in me and always sought my advice. After some time, I discouraged him from seeking assistance as I wanted him to feel that all results were his creation. Sooner he realised this fact.
This boy became a dependable asset to our organization. I think it’s our responsibility to develop the positives of an individual and assist him in furthering his goal.
