On 2nd March, I was on a flight to Nagpur. As my seat was in the last row, I requested the flight ✈️ attendants to give me a better place. A young lady came with a very sick looking patient in a wheelchair. They were allotted seats next to mine. The thought that I might contract an infection just brushed my psyche, but I decided to be with them. Even though the flight attendant offered me another seat, I declined it.
On enquiring, I found out that the young lady was an experienced operation theatre nurse, and that the patient was her mother. The patient was suffering from a rare brain disease and was asked to consult a referral centre in Chandigarh. Their visit and the prognosis of the condition was not encouraging. They had decided to undergo the treatment in Nagpur. The patient was unable to swallow food and was mostly on water, that was sprayed in her mouth 👅. She hardly ate anything and was very weak. The daughter was very much stressed and was not eating much. She had lost 10 kgs in the last six months.
I counselled the daughter regarding the medical condition. I gave her my contact number as well as a known neurologist ’s contact details. I purchased Upma for her and persuaded her to eat. She was a bit relieved and thanked me. She shared her phone number with me. She told me that she prays to God daily for her mother and that God has sent help through me. The journey ended soon. I left with a promise to help this determined young lady. 😊
