One of my friends is passionate about playing the tabla. Her husband passed away a couple of years ago after a prolonged battle with cancer. Tabla is something that she picked up after his death, and so it is very special to her. She looks forward to being able to play in a group one day.
I sing at the temple on Sunday evenings, where all the singers send their lyrics beforehand. The organizer creates slides and displays the words. Today when I went to the temple, I saw my friend playing tabla there for the first time. The bhajan I was going to sing was going to be difficult for her, and I didn’t want her to lose her confidence. So I decided to speak with the organizers and requested them to change the bhajan to a more simple one, which would be easy for her to accompany. She did well, and I was so glad.
Later she came to me with a big smile, and I congratulated her for doing so well, telling her how proud I was of her. She told me how happy she was because she played well during my bhajan, as it mattered to her. I came home feeling good, knowing she has taken another step towards her journey ❤
