The title is funny, and so is the story. I live in the Netherlands, and like many others travel to work on my bicycle. The distance is 14km, but it doesn’t feel like a lot because of the cool weather. On one such sunny day, I was returning home, and just half a km from my home, my front tire skid from the separator between the cycle track and footpath and I fell hard on the cycle track.
The impact on my left hand was strong, and my wrist bone broke. I was in immense pain, and the people around me were sympathetic. I called my friends who took me to the hospital.
Although I have always been irritable and easy to anger, I was calm and composed this time throughout the procedure. I started meditation a year ago, and that, I think, may have been the reason for my calmness.
I still get irritated and feel angry sometimes, but the intensity has reduced. People around me notice the difference and point to mention it to me now and then.
It’s been three months since the accident; I can move my wrist and ride again.
Meditation gives you the ability to stay composed in crisis.
