My paternal uncle, who was 70 years old suffered from prostate cancer with bone metastasis. He was staying alone, and none of his six siblings wanted to take the responsibility of caring for him, as this would put them under financial burden. My father, who is the eldest, was unable to see him struggling and decided to bring him home. We took over the responsibility of his treatment (surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy) at one of the best hospitals. This hospital is 70 km away from our home, and for nearly one year, we travelled to and fro. To do this, we had to take leave from work and postpone all our personal work.
Initially, my uncle was happy that we are taking care of him. As he started healing and becoming more independent, he grew very demanding. He blamed our family and complained about everything. He went on to say that he did not even have cancer. These allegations really pained and hurt us deeply. We did the best we could and felt deeply wronged.
My father has always advised us that if we do good unto others, then we will always be supported by God and the universe.
Let karma take care of your deeds.
