It was a regular, busy workday. I received a phone call from a desperate employee who had mistakenly filled and sent the wrong form to our department. As a result, his entire salary for the month was sent to his super fund. Which meant no pay for him – he could access his super fund only after retirement. He was upset and was a bit rude on the phone. I was appraised of the situation by a team member what has happened. At that stage, I told him we may not be able to do much but will get back asap.
While I was driving home, I thought of the poor guy and could see how bad he must be feeling. Anyone could make a mistake. Next day I requested the team to take whatever action we could to assist the employee. With proactive action, we were able to stop the payment and instead credit the salary to the employee. Also, we explained to him what he needed to do the following day. I don’t know the person but the fact that he has the money to survive made me feel better. I finished my day with a peaceful heart.
There is nothing greater than doing something for others.
