Until recently, whenever I travelled by rickshaw, I used to bargain with the rickshaw pullers, but now I don’t. Nowadays, I tip them an extra ten rupees, and say, “Chai pi lena (have a cup of tea).”
Several things have happened to change my earlier attitude. One day my friend admonished me saying that if I could spend thousands of rupees on shopping for fancy items then why did I haggle with a poor rickshaw puller. Why couldn’t I just tip him a little extra? Her questions moved me a lot. Secondly, the repetitive practice of mindfulness and kindness in the Black Lotus app has made me more aware of my behaviour. Reading both The Book of Kindness by Om Swami and the inspirational Rak stories in the app have also helped immensely.
Whatever we share, grows.
