While all these years we grew up learning that we shouldn’t hide anything, the Pandemic has ensured that we unlearn this and relearn that the new normal is masking up!
The security guard at my housing complex(a young man of 25/26 years) came up to my apartment to deliver an item kept at the security gate. I observed that he was shying away from facing me. On probing, I discovered that he was not wearing a mask. I asked him if he wasn’t scared of being infected by the virus. He begged me not to complain to the Secretary of the housing complex and said that he had only one mask which he had lost the previous night. He promised to buy a new one as soon as possible.
I could sense that for him, the fear of losing his job was more than the fear of the deadly virus and his health. I immediately offered him a fresh mask which I had purchased and told him not to risk his life by being careless. The young man smiled and thanked me. He was amazed by the fact that instead of complaining about his lapse, someone thought of his well being. His eyes said it all!
Nothing could have been more satisfying.
Let’s help people save their lives by contributing whatever we can.
