We were invited to a special night hosted by the Hospice Care Association( for cancer patients), where we have been volunteering for six years now. As a founder volunteer, I’m always on the invite and communication list. I could take three more people with me to the dinner at a 5 Star Hotel.
This year I decided not to go and let other volunteers enjoy the evening. I was aware that an award was being presented to us too. Though both the organiser and my volunteers requested me to attend I didn’t because I also wanted to experience how I feel by giving others a chance. We are a group and all work, so why me?
The four who went, came back beaming with happiness. Resplendent in sarees amid a predominant Chinese guest list, they also won the best-dressed award and were much appreciated for our work together.
I found myself waiting late into the night wondering if anyone would call to tell me abou it. And one by one they did. I was very proud of them !
Letting others win is a great reward in itself.
