Last month, there was a message left on my answering machine from the son of a friend of mine. He said that his 92-year old grandmother has just passed on (about an hour ago). He told me that as per her will, she had requested that I perform her last rights.
Without a second thought, I agreed. But I was in shock as well. My friend was out of the county, and we organised the funeral after three days, which happened to be a working day. I performed the rituals to the best of my knowledge. I was glad that I could help the family by performing the last rites of a loved one, and that I had honoured someone’s last wish.
Honour the wish of a person, whether alive or no more in this world.
