This Holiday season, I felt inspired to help the needy in my community. I decided to do a fundraiser for the homeless with the help of my school. I contacted a nearby homeless shelter, who was in great need of men’s hygiene items (shaving items, etc.). Through a program at my school, I ended up raising over 200 hygiene items, including body washes, combs, deodorants, razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes, and tubes of toothpaste. We made holiday-themed goody bags, and this Thanksgiving week, I dropped the items off at the shelter.
At the shelter, my mom and I saw the homeless sitting around in dirty clothes next to the small tents they call ‘home’. Seeing this was so eye-opening – we have so much! It made me feel so happy that I made the efforts to do this. It is so true that Raks benefit both the doer and the receiver :).
We always feel that we have no time, or especially in these COVID circumstances, that it’s just not possible to make an impact on others. But, there is always a way to serve your community, especially those who spend this Holiday season alone and hungry.
Thank you for your time. I hope you feel inspired to spread an act of kindness to those in your community.
Show kindness and generosity to those who need it most this Holiday season.
