I am recently married ( for the second time) and presently living with my in-laws and my kid. My husband lives in West Bengal, and we are both serving in the armed forces. Today my mom-in-law had to keep a fast for Chaukh Chanda, which is celebrated on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. She hinted that I must fast too, which I thought was not a big deal. But I forgot that I have never fasted and somehow it didn’t sit well with me mentally.
So today when I was asked I quietly said yes I would be fasting, hoping for someone to tell me not to. I then expressed my stress to my husband too unnecessarily. And I wasn’t feeling comfortable. Finally, I told my mom-in-law that I was feeling hungry and that it was difficult to keep the fast. She said no problem, and she told me I could take part in the pooja and rituals. Everything was sorted out finally, and I helped her to keep eating healthy the whole day during her fast. We did rituals in the evening and then finally enjoyed the feast.
Takeaway
Sometimes clearly speaking with the other resolves the issue quickly.
