I engaged a lady as a domestic helper. Her husband was a drunkard who did not help with the running of the household, so she and her mother-in-law went out to earn their living. Since she was new and didn’t have a phone, it was difficult for me to coordinate the work timings with her. To ensure smooth communication with her, I gave her a smartphone which no one was using. She happily took the phone and did not turn up for work the following week. I could not call her to find out what was wrong as she did not share her number with me.
Later, I found out that she had started working at my neighbour’s place. I asked her why she had stopped coming, she gave me a vague reason, but expressed gratitude for the phone that I had given her. Her daughter, who was in 3rd grade, was using the phone to attend online classes during the pandemic. I felt very happy knowing that the phone was being put to good use.
An act done with good intentions yields a good outcome.
