One of my neighbours was suffering from high fever and loss of smell and taste. He lived in a joint family, and his people isolated him but could not convince him to get himself tested for COVID-19. His condition was deteriorating every day but several factors like prejudice, orthodox thinking, social stigma and illiteracy were preventing him from accepting the existence of coronavirus.
I lied to him that I was having COVID-19 symptoms and requested him to accompany me to the hospital for a check-up. Being a kind person, he agreed. Once there, I convinced him to get himself tested too and said that I would deal with the society at large.
He tested positive and was quarantined at the government facility. All the necessary care and medicines, including hydroxychloroquine, were provided to him. Slowly, with good medical support, he started recovering and realized that it was necessary for him to seek medical aid. He has recovered fully, and I am incredibly pleased that I had a hand in his treatment.
Telling a lie for the sake of being kind is also kindness.
