A girl contacted me for financial help at the beginning of the lockdown period. We don’t know each other personally but have mutual friends on Instagram. A thought crossed my mind that this may be a fraud but decided to help her anyway.
I don’t have much money myself. I earn a little by performing at small places( I am a singer) and by dubbing. Since I had earned ten thousand rupees recently, I sent her one thousand rupees which would cover her food and rent expenses.
The lockdown was extended, and she approached me a few more times for money, and I helped her again. Although she stopped asking me for money after a while(maybe she felt inhibited) I continued to send her a bit. Soon all my cash was over.
I borrowed money from my friends to pay for her hotel stay as the place she was staying in asked her to vacate the premises. I also asked some money from my parents to pay for her flight tickets from Bengaluru to Mumbai.
I am glad she’s back home safely. I am happy that I could manage to help out someone who was practically unknown to me in spite of having meagre resources.
Takeaway
Intention matters and not how much money you have.
