It was Teachers Day, and my Mom, having worked as a teacher close to 40 years, was going to celebrate it with a Zoom call with her ex-colleagues. This event was facilitated by the current Management at her school, and she was looking forward to it, like a little girl. However, she retired from service nearly 20 years ago!
The problem was that she wasn’t familiar with technology and was worried about her participation going smoothly. I assured her gently and sat with her the entire three hours of the event, helping her speak when she was asked to, and listening when required. It was a simply beautiful experience – they honoured her virtually, and she delighted in the experience so much!
I realised my contribution to her happiness, seeing colleagues of her age whose children were not around to help, struggling with connecting and speaking. Those whose children helped had a lovely experience, and I honestly felt very grateful that the Gods let me be with my Mom and contribute to her joy on her special day ? !
It’s wonderful to help your parents with technology!
