On my way to the office, there is a stretch of road, about 3km long, without any traffic signal. It’s a busy road in the middle of the city and vehicles don’t slow down much. A lot of pedestrians also try to cross the road, given a large number of offices on either side. I noticed that they need to wait for a rather long time before being able to cross the road. I started to stop my car and give way to them whenever the situation permitted (meaning no speeding vehicle behind me and no risk of causing an accident). Almost all the time, pedestrians are surprised, and many don’t start walking till I wave my hand, signalling them to go ahead. Sometimes I hear honks from vehicles behind me, but it’s worth it.
Kindness is realising that we are all in this together!
