Shagunji’s story about cleaning the banks of the Giri River reminded me of an experience I had with my daughter.
We were on holiday in Sikkim and were visiting one of the higher elevations known for its beautiful scenery and views. We climbed a small hillock along with other tourists to gain a better vantage point for viewing our surroundings. We were dismayed to see the top littered with empty bottles, cans, etc., which had been obviously left by tourists.
We started collecting them and also requested other people around us to help, but no one came forward. We collected all we could and used our jackets as sacks and carried them to the vending stall below as we didn’t know where to throw them.
We left happy that we could collect some, but a bit disappointed that we could’ve done more if we could convince our fellow tourists to chip in.
Takeaway
Do the best you can within your limited circumstances.
