I work in the fundraising department in an Australian charity. There was a case where we needed to refund more than three years worth of donations already debited from a donor’s account. While we don’t usually do this, in this case, it came from a simple person in a remote aboriginal community. He didn’t have any idea that a certain amount was being debited from his account for that long. He came from a home where there was both domestic violence and poverty. He was hearing impaired and thus couldn’t communicate either. I spoke with his sister-in-law and agreed to refund the whole amount and wrote an email wishing them well. I got “Blessings from Townsville” in return!
Never miss opportunity to be kind.
