My maid is diabetic. Despite consulting the doctors at the local General Hospital, spending long hours waiting in the queue, her sugar levels were not in control.
Having lost my father to diabetes, I felt concerned and took her to consult a private diabetologist at my own expense. After studying the test results, he explained that her type of diabetes could only be controlled with insulin injections. My maid was at a loss since she said the government hospital, which gave free medicines, would not give her insulin on the prescription of a private doctor. I reassured her and told her I would pay for all her monthly medication, including insulin. I even purchased a sugar testing machine, so I could home test her sugar levels and adjust her insulin dosage in consultation with the doctor.
Fortunately, the levels are in control now, and I feel content and at peace to see her happy and healthy.
The happiness in helping someone keep healthy is priceless.
