It was a Thursday evening, and I had gone shopping for my weekly groceries. While returning with all my bags, I saw an elderly lady pushing the trolley full of groceries across the intersection. She kept looking back to see how far along the tram was as she wanted to take it back home. I could see she was struggling and couldn’t push the trolley.
The tram wasn’t too far away, and she was definitely going to miss it. It was cold, windy and rainy. I asked her if she was ok, she replied yes and said that she would miss the tram. Keeping my groceries on the footpath, I quickly pushed the trolley halfway into the intersection for her. I took her groceries out of the trolley and hopped onto the tram with them as it stopped for passengers. Then I helped the lady hop onto the tram and told her to get home safely.
It made me feel so good seeing her make it to the tram and have a safe ride home.
Be observant and aware – sometimes a small gesture of kindness goes a long way.
