It was raining heavily in July. I was at the office doing my journal entries when suddenly my boss came and told me “You need to go to the courier office and collect the important documents sent from head office”. I took a look outside, and it was pouring with no sign of stopping. I took his car and asked the driver to reach the courier office as early as possible. We got there very quickly, and I collected the documents. The traffic was really bad, and my boss was repeatedly calling. As I rushed towards the car while carrying the documents, they got a bit wet, which I didn’t notice. I gave the documents to him on my return, and he started shouting at me for being dumb and not doing any work properly.
Later, when the office hours were over, I started walking home, carrying an umbrella over my head. I was thinking about the shouting I received, and a low feeling of being useless overcame me. It was around 5:40 pm, and a bus full of school children ready to go home was standing on the side of the road. Some were looking at me and smiling, but I didn’t notice. A little later, a boy peeped outside the window and said, “Hey Uncle, you are so tall, what’s your height?”
I told him, “6ft 2inches.”
Then he told his friends, and they all started looking at me. They told me that I had an awesome height. Their kind words, innocently spoken, were like a balm to my feelings of low self-esteem. I walked home feeling much better.
Takeaway
Don’t take things too seriously. Be like a child and cherish every moment.
