I was carrying some cut cake in my tiffin box for lunch, leftovers from last night’s birthday party. I also had a separate box full of some snacks and a bottle of water. On the roadside, I happened to see a couple of hungry-looking children who looked like siblings. On seeing me, they approached my car and asked me for some food. I immediately pulled out the lunch boxes, full of delicious cake and snacks, and gave all of it to both the children.
The girl asked me for some water, “Paani de do,” she said. Happily, I handed over my bottle to them. The smile on their faces was unforgettable, and to be cherished for a lifetime.
I felt a surge of happiness within and a great deal of compassion.
Compassion boosts self worth. Giving is happiness.
