A friend and I had gone to the market to run some essential errands and planned to be back in an hour. However, nature had other plans for us. When we reached the market, we spotted a pigeon who appeared lifeless- we were contemplating how and where to bury it when it suddenly moved! We discovered that it didn’t have any visible physical injury but seemed too weak. There are many stray dogs in that area, so we decided first to get it checked by a vet and then drop off at a safe place. The vet informed us that it was a young bird who probably either fell while trying to fly or had an infection that made her weak. He suggested proper care for it, which only an expert could provide. On his suggestion, we went and dropped off our feathered friend to a pigeon rescue centre. Our hour-long trip extended to 4 hours but we were happy that we could be of use to another life.
I want to mention that someone had left some water for the pigeon where it lay exhausted, a shopkeeper gave us a towel to wrap and carry her. The vet didn’t charge any fee and the bird rescue centre turned out to be a four-storey building dedicated to the service of pigeons with full-time vets on duty. It was a day of happy realisation that this world is full of noble and kind souls.
There are kind and noble souls around us to help save a life.
