It started with jokes at 6:30 am followed by the usual madness of getting out of the home. Facing road closures due to icy conditions, I turned around to take the highway. I was 10 minutes away from work when I hit a pothole, which tore my Lexus passenger side tyre! It was already 10 minutes past 9am, and I was missing out on a conference call.
I called the people to get the tyre replaced. All of a sudden, a gentleman in a Lexus SUV stopped to ask if I needed help to change the tyre. He said he could do it in 10 minutes, but I was hesitant and still trying to get Lexus roadside assistance.
He took the tyre and the tools, all the while conversing with me politely all along. He asked if I was in the medical field. He worked in property management and often went to hospitals where people were often bitter and overworked, and that he wouldn’t want his wife changing the tyre as it is hard work! Meantime, I noticed something different about how he used the tools. I pushed away all the negative thoughts that popped into my mind.
When he finished, I thanked him and promised I would pass on the kindness and generosity going forward. He then revealed that he did not have a left hand and had covered his left hand throughout changing the tyre. I was shocked!
My life was changed forever. All I learnt from this entire process was how humble, kind and positive this person was and how he helped people.
Pay it forward with kindness and compassion!
