Today I visited my friend, who had a stroke and was paralyzed on the right side. I used to talk to her, but of late, I got busy with my life. I live very far from her, so today, I made a special effort to visit her. She was eagerly waiting for me.
She wanted me to sing some bhajans. And like a small child, she was clapping and trying to sing along with me. She was so excited and happy that I was deeply touched. It was as if she wanted to draw some joy from our friendship. I thought I would stay for about 45 minutes but spent more than three hours.
It had a serious effect on me. I realized that a sick person, who feels helpless and suffocated, desperately wants company – to breathe and feel normal. Giving that loving touch could work miracles.
I felt so empowered that I could reach out to her, and at the same time felt very humbled and grateful that God had given me that energy.
Takeaway
The love of friends could heal the scars of pain.
