It was the end of a beautiful day of sightseeing when we came to the last spot, a dam where the security was tight. We sat on the park bench overlooking the dam, enjoying the beautiful sunset. The only other person in the park was an old man sitting at the nearby picnic table.
After a while, a smartly dressed Security Officer approached us to inform us that it would soon be closing time. As he moved on to the next bench, I noticed the old man was unshaven, in clothes that had seen better days, and was carrying an overflowing old rucksack suggesting that perhaps he was homeless. The Security Officer politely informed him about the imminent closing time and asked about his well being. He then inquired if the old man was well and had a place to stay for the night. They chatted and laughed like old friends. After a while, they both went their separate ways.
And at the end of that beautiful day, I was lucky to witness a wonderful lesson on treating people with dignity and kindness.
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.
