I stopped at a tea stall on my way from Kasauli to Dehradun, where the smart, clean owner was sitting on a bean bag! While sipping coffee with my driver, I struck up a conversation with the owner and another client. Written on the wall was a notice that said 10 per cent of the sales go to charity. The other guest was a singer who had travelled across the US and Europe. I mentioned how people sometimes paid the toll for the vehicle behind them or paid for the coffee for someone who needed it, which in turn brought smiles to the receiver’s face. The singer told me the custom was called ‘one for the wall.’ I remarked that the idea was wonderful and got up to leave. Reaching my car, I felt I must leave something for the wall. So I went back and made a sizeable donation. Which in turn brought about many smiles!
