Just before the monsoons, the municipality in my locality cleans gutters clogged with filth which is a good initiative. The sad part is that it happens mainly due to the apathy of throwing wrappers, plastic bottles, cups etc. The most heart-wrenching scene is seeing workers go down these drains – bare-bodied, with no safety measures and removing filth with their bare hands (imagine when people these days are paranoid about touching anything !! )
Passing by such scenes, I either stop by and buy some lime juice or give each one a small amount of cash. The look of surprise and smiles on their faces makes my day. In my opinion, they are the real environmentalists.
A small act of kindness can commemorate work that is otherwise unnoticed.
