I recently took my four-year-old twin boys to the annual day at Gharkul, a school for Special children. They have 50 children. We brought fifty chocolate boxes to distribute, but the real gift was the perspective we received in return.
Watching the children perform—some dancing, some doing yoga, and others participating from wheelchairs with the help of their devoted teachers—moved me to tears. In that moment, the complaints of daily life faded away. I felt a profound surge of gratitude for our health and a deep resonance with the idea that someone, somewhere, is dreaming of the life we often take for granted.
My boys are young and didn’t see “disabilities”; they only saw the joy of sharing sweets. That night, I explained to them that while God gives every child different gifts—some can walk, some cannot; some have much, others have little—it is our duty to share what we have.
I told them that kindness creates balance. We give back because we are lucky enough to be able to. I hope that by planting these seeds of compassion now, they will grow up viewing the world with a heart ready to serve.
Takeaway
We find true balance when we stop counting our problems and start sharing our blessings.
