Recently, I read an article about Sweden that said people there had decided to go through all their belongings and stuff and give them away to people interested in having them. Whatever they felt the children would be interested in, they gave it to them. This way, when they died, they did not leave any problem for the children to sort or feel guilty about disposing-the stuff.
I found this to be a sensible and practical advice to follow. I went through my collections of books, souvenirs, saris, and so many other things. The people I gave things away to were so happy to receive them. Now I have enough stuff for a simple life, and I feel very peaceful about it.
