I recently got acquainted with my new neighbour. She’s a housewife with a 2-year-old daughter. I try to invite her home every evening to chat for some time and make my daughters play with her kid even though she’s young compared to them. I then ask her to go get some me-time while we play with her child.
I remember what it is like to take care of a young child, all alone throughout the day – it gets lonely and tiring. It makes me so happy to engage her in conversation because I remember spending the entire day without speaking to an adult face to face. I love playing with the toddler and remember the childhood of my children. It gives the young mother some child-free time to listen to her own thoughts. I think it’s a win-win for both of us.
It takes a village to raise a child.
