I had trying times making my relationships work with my in-laws when l got married 20 years back. I faced their harsh words towards my parents’ family and me many times. But with my limited knowledge of karma, l never returned my behaviour in the same way to them, thinking that they are doing their karma and I am doing mine. I chose forgiveness over verbal fights and kindness over misunderstandings. I always stood by them in their social stresses and especially ailments of serious kinds, as I would do for my parents.
Today l hold a big, loving and respectful place in the family. It took years of consistent and persistent effort to reap the fruits, but it was worth it.
Never underestimate the power of forgiveness and kindness.
