My school is in a suburban area where ninety out of a hundred students are economically backward. Despite their economic hardships, most students come to school in proper uniform. In class XI, there is a boy (Bijay) who always wears sandals instead of shoes, which is a mandatory part of school uniform. There are a few others like him but after telling them repeatedly, they have bought their shoes and come to school wearing them. But Bijay hasn’t done so yet. A few days ago, I asked him again about his shoes. Then he told me “I, too, wish to come to school in proper uniform like my friends. But what can I do if I can’t afford it?”
His words moved me a lot. Just after school hour, I provided him with monetary help and asked him to buy a pair of shoes.
The next day Bijay stood confidently during the morning prayer singing the national anthem. There was brightness in his eyes. I felt happy for him.
