It was nearly the Christmas weekend. I was on my way back home after some purchases. I was walking towards the bus stop and I saw a familiar old Chinese person playing his usual tunes at the side of the road.
He has an old instrument and he plays it to earn money. He is not a beggar but is very old and it’s how he makes ends meet. I always tip him for his music. But that day I didn’t have any cash, so, I gave him a bagful of walnuts from my groceries.
I was surprised when he returned my offer back. He replied,“You must have bought this for Christmas, I can’t take it from you,”he said. I said, “Don’t worry, I will buy another one,” and he took it with a broad smile. I felt so humbled and suprised because even though he needed food and money so badly, he did not take the free offering right in front of him.
There is no limit to how giving a person can be, irrespective of possessions.
