A friend, also a schoolmate with a very righteous and sober personality, was reluctant to take up a teaching job because it required wearing a saree which she found highly uncomfortable. Although I suggested that wearing a saree is not so difficult, her reluctance persisted.
After pondering the matter, it struck me that one school where I used to teach did not make it mandatory for teachers to wear sarees. Here, salwar suits were equally welcome.
In my next conversation, I urged her to apply to this school. And so she did.
There you go! Her teaching career was initiated in this school. Wearing comfortable salwar suits, she worked there for a year but being underpaid, she had to quit. Next year, she found a permanent teaching opportunity in another school offering a retirement pension. She was delighted that here too, she could wear salwar suits.
To date, she continues teaching in this school. Her dedication is highly appreciated by parents and school authorities alike.
Do not be deterred by a friend’s reluctance. Motivate them to be positive and explore new opportunities.
