Inspired by Neev, this story is by Vanshika Jain, 11, in her own words.
When I went on vacation to my grandparents’ place in Lucknow, I helped them with their household work. In the mornings, I helped grandpa water the plants. It was so much fun getting up early and watering the garden. Everything is so silent at that time, with only the birds chirping and the wind whistling. I am usually chattering away with my granddad, and we talk about all the fun things I did in my childhood and what he did in his.
Then in the afternoons, I would help my granny make lunch. It was pretty enjoyable to see the different food ingredients and listen to my granny patiently explaining to me why and how we use them. You may think that it’s pretty boring, but I find all this information fascinating.
We also watched the movie- The Secret Superstar, and they both liked the movie as much as I did while having a delightful time eating chips. And it was so good to see them laugh and smile. It’s a different feeling, and it makes me want to smile too.
We all made sweets like besan ke ladoo (balls made of chickpea flour, sugar, nuts and cardamom) and chocolate barfi (chocolate flavoured sweet made of thickened milk). It was fun to spend the time laughing and joking with both of them and helping them. I can’t wait to visit them again!
Takeaway
Chilling with grandparents isn’t boring; we can learn so many things from them.It is super enjoyable.
